Explore Patagonia on a Cruise

Patagonia is a world of its own. Stretched out over the southern part of South America, Patagonia is a huge deserted wilderness, one of the last remaining areas of outstanding beauty and filled with every type of life.

Patagonia is the stuff of legends, and to quote a Mr Bruce Chatwin, "Patagonia is the farthest place to which man walked from his place of origins. It is therefore a symbol of his restlessness."

What attracts visitors to the area is its unique ecosystems, its glaciers, its lakes, its wildlife and its tranquility.

By experiencing the magic of a Patagonia cruise you are able to glimpse the place first hand, able to explore its many glaciers and lakes, observe fantastic scenery and snow capped mountains and see the diverse range of animals and marine life.

All of this is available from the luxury of a Patagonia cruise.

Cruises depart from a number of Patagonia destinations, covering a range of activities from whale and dolphin watching, to long haul cruises to the Southern Antarctic.

One of the most common cruises is from Ushuaia to Punta Arenas, or vice versa. Travelling between the nations of Argentina to Chile; passing though the strip of the land and around the "end of the world".

Ushuaia is the world's most southern city, located in the Tierra de Fuego in Argentina.

However, considering its remoteness, it is actually an excellent destination for shopping due to the areas tax status – making goods very cheap.

The cruise takes you through the Beagle and Murray channels until you reach the Cape Horn national park, a UNESCO World Biosphere reserve. Here you are able to disembark and explore.

Cape Horn brings is the place of legends, as the point where the Pacific and Atlantic

Oceans meet and where generations of sea farers have risked their lives in rough seas to bring goods bought from the nations of Peru and Chile before the construction of the Panama Canal, the invention of air travel and modern luxury ships.

A trip to the Wulaia Bay is also included which was one of the last settlements for native peoples in the region. Originally natives had migrated from the North, from what is now the USA, covering a huge distance over generations, until they reached the end of the world.

Glaciers are abound is this region and as the boat navigates through the many canals, you can see sea lion colonies, penguins and wealth of other animal life.

Notable glaciers on the trip include the awe-inspiring Gunther Plüschow Glacier, named after the pioneering German aviator who explored the area by plane.

The area is also home to the majestic Piloto and Nena glaciers and beautiful waterfalls from the Alakaluf Fjord.

A trip on a Patagonia cruise is truly an unforgettable experience and after it you find you have a new found appreciation of Mother Nature and the natural world.

Bon Voyage!
